Yu Gi Oh Day [22-23 July] Q&A

Q: What is Yu-Gi-Oh! Day?

Yu-Gi-Oh! Day is a day for all to celebrate the Yu-Gi-Oh! brand, create excitement for our brand at our Official Tournament Stores (OTS), and to further distinguish OTS from non-OTS. Yu-Gi-Oh! Day is held simultaneously throughout North America. The event is scheduled to occur on either Saturday, July 22nd, 2017, or Sunday, July 23rd, 2017.

Duelists will be able to participate in a Sanctioned tournament at all participating Official Tournament Stores (OTS), with exclusive prizes only available at an OTS.

Only Konami OTS are permitted to host a Yu-Gi-Oh! Day event.

Q: Where and when are the Yu-Gi-Oh! Day events?

The Yu-Gi-Oh! Days will be held on either Saturday, July 22nd, 2017, or Sunday, July 23rd, 2017 at select locations throughout North America. A list of locations and dates for the Yu-Gi-Oh! 

Q: What is the attendance capacity for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Day?
Due to safety and fire regulations, each Yu-Gi-Oh! Day has a seating capacity and it may vary from location to location. It is advised that you arrive early enough to register for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Day so that you can ensure a spot in the event. If you have any additional questions, please contact the OTS directly at the phone number that corresponds with the event in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Day Locator page.

Q: How much does it cost to enter the Yu-Gi-Oh! Day tournament?

The registration fee for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Day is $10.00 USD in the United States ($1300 CAD in Canada), which is the SRP of the Starter Deck - Link Strike -. All players entering the Yu-Gi-Oh! Day event must receive one (1) Starter Deck - Link Strike - as commensurate prizing, which you will be using in the tournament.

Sales tax may not be charged on top of the entry fee for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Day. If a region requires sales tax to be charged on entry fees, then the current entry fees should be considered to already include the sales tax.

Q: What are the prizes for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Day tournament?

In addition to the product each Duelist receives upon entering the tournament, prize distribution will be as follows:

• First place winner, after the conclusion of the last round of Swiss, will receive an exclusive Yu-Gi-Oh! Day full size Game Mat.  This Game Mat will feature the new zones that will be utilized from July 21st.

• Top 8 Duelists, after the conclusion of the last round of Swiss, will each receive an exclusive Yu-Gi-Oh! Day Super Rare Token Card.
• At the OTS’ discretion, the above prizes may be supplemented with additional Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG product or accessories.

Q: What is the format for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Day tournament?

The current Yu-Gi-Oh! Day event is a Tier 1 event, conducted as Sealed Format, Sealed Deck, Swiss round events. The Yu-Gi-Oh! Day will play Swiss Rounds, with no Playoff top cut, with prizes awarded at the end of the final Swiss round played. The format details provided here supersede any tournament details found in other official KDE policy documents.

*The Number of Participants is based on how many total participants are enrolled in the tournament once Registration closes. All Duelists added to the event after registration closes should not affect the number of Swiss Rounds.

• Example: After registration closes, 63 Duelists have registered for the tournament. This means that the tournament will have 6 Rounds of Swiss, with no Playoff cut. Two Duelists register late, beginning the tournament with a Round 1 Match Loss. Even though this brings the attendance total to 65, only 6 Rounds of Swiss are played, with no Playoff cut.

These events are Tier 1 events and will use the appropriate End of Match Procedures for a Tier 1 events during Swiss Rounds. This means that Matches will not have Draws at this level.

Duelists in Sealed Deck format events will be provided with card product at the event, and they will construct their Tournament Decks from that product only.

Sealed Deck events feature Decks that are constructed entirely of cards provided at the tournament. Duelists may not add in cards from any other source.

Duelists will utilize the Starter Deck - Link Strike - provided as part of their registration, as their tournament Deck for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Day event. Duelists may not trade the cards they received in the Starter Deck with other Duelists until the tournament is over, and they may not add cards they already own.

The rules for the Starter Deck - Link Strike - tournament is as follows:

• Each Duelist is given one (1) sealed Starter Deck - Link Strike - upon registering for the event.
• Staff should be made available to help teach the participants the new Link Summoning game mechanic. This should occur before the start of the tournament.
• Round 1 should not begin until at least 20 minutes after the last person has registered, to allow time for the players to look over their cards and sleeve their main Deck and Extra Deck, should they choose to do so, with tournament-legal sleeves, as well as learn the new Link Summoning game mechanic.
• Once the above steps are completed the Duelists then will play against their first round opponent in a best 2-out of-3 match. 

Q: What if I do not know the new Link Summoning game mechanic. Will there be anyone available to teach me? 
Each Yu-Gi-Oh! Day location should have staff available to assist players and be able to teach the new Link Summoning mechanic. Please arrive and register a bit earlier if you would like to learn the new Link Summoning game mechanic before the event begins!

Q: Can I get a CARD GAME ID number (previously referred to as COSSY ID) at the Yu-Gi-Oh! Day tournament, or will I need to have one before I attend the event?

If you do not have a CARD GAME ID number, you can get one at the event.

If you previously had a COSSY ID, that same number will carry over as your CARD GAME ID. You will still need to register online at https://cardgame-network.konami.net/.

If you do not remember your previous 10-digit ID, a registration staff member on-site should be able to assist in finding your correct ID. Duelists should avoid acquiring new CARD GAME IDs if the previous ID can be found.

Q: Will I need to complete and turn in a Deck List?
A Deck list is not required for this Yu-Gi-Oh! Day event.

Q: What cards are legal for play?

Duelists will utilize the Starter Deck - Link Strike - provided as part of their registration, as their tournament Deck for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Day event. Duelists may not trade the cards they received in the Starter Deck with other Duelists until the tournament is over, and they may not add cards they already own.

PREPARING FOR THE TOURNAMENT

Duelists who wish to enter a Yu-Gi-Oh! Day must meet the following criteria

• Have a CARD GAME ID number (obtainable at the event) and be in good standing.
• Have read and understood the following documents. These documents can be found at http://www.yugioh-card.com/en/gameplay/

Any tournament official associated with or working an event cannot play in that specific event. This includes, but is not limited to, the Judge Staff, Scorekeeper, Event Staff, Store Owner, and Tournament Organizer.

Event Staff or Judge Staff who participate in a tournament for which they are listed as staff, will be subject to penalties, up to and including suspension from KDE Organized Play.

Duelists who have been suspended from Organized Play by KDE are not considered to be in good standing, and may not register for or compete in Official or Sanctioned events. A list of suspended players can be found at http://www.yugioh-card.com/en/events/suspended.html.

Suspended persons may not enter the venue of a Yu-Gi-Oh! Day event, no exceptions. If a suspended person is discovered at the venue, they may be charged with offenses including but not limited to trespassing, as well as an extension of their suspension.

If a Suspended Duelist’s name appears on the Suspended Player list, they are not allowed to be on the premises, even if they have reached their date of eligibility for reinstatement. Suspended Duelists are required to apply for reinstatement with the KDE Penalty Committee via us-penalty@konami.com. Once their applications have been reviewed, and their reinstatement accepted, their name will be removed from the list. Until that time, they are considered to be Suspended Players.

Q: What will I need to bring to a Yu-Gi-Oh! Day tournament?

You should bring any tournament supplies you will need, such as paper and pen to track Life Points, dice or counters for card effects, extra sleeves to replace any that become damaged, and so forth. If you have a CARD GAME ID number, you should bring your number. You’ll also need the entry fee for the tournament, as well as money for any incidentals (food, drink, etc.).

Q: What if I lost an item at a Yu-Gi-Oh! Day tournament?

Duelists are responsible for looking after their own belongings at the event. Konami Digital Entertainment, Tournament Organizers, Staff, and Judges bear no responsibility for, and cannot be held liable for, any loss, theft or damage to the person or personal property of any attendee.

Duelists who have lost items should seek the Lost & Found on-site. If the item is not found on-site, Duelists are encouraged to contact the OTS within a 60-day period on the chance the lost item has been turned in.

Q: What will I need to bring in order to register for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Day tournament?

Duelists wishing to register for a Yu-Gi-Oh! Day will be required to complete a registration form at the event. Duelists will be required to present their CARD GAME ID number along with a form of ID in order to register for the event. Acceptable forms of ID include current-year School ID cards, driver’s licenses, passports, or other government-issued identification documents.

If you are under the age of 16, you can bring in a copy of your birth certificate as proof of ID. Duelists under the age of 16 are required to have a parent or guardian read and sign the registration form in order to be eligible to participate in a Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelists who register or attempt to register under another Duelist’s name or CARD GAME ID number will be disqualified from the event, and risk suspension from KDE Organized Play events. Duelists are required to register with their legal name, as it appears on their form of ID. Nicknames may not be used when registering for a Yu-Gi-Oh! Day. Initials to replace the First or Last Names may not be used when registering for a Yu-Gi-Oh! Day.

Q: If I’ve never been to a Yu-Gi-Oh! Day tournament, what should I expect?

Yu-Gi-Oh! Days are Tier 1 tournaments, and attract both casual and competitive Duelists who wish to celebrate the Yu-Gi-Oh! brand.

There are a lot of things you should do to make sure you are prepared before heading to the tournament. 
Read over the list of things you will need for the tournament, and make sure you have everything. 
You’ll have a better time at the event if you don’t have too many bulky or heavy possessions to carry around, as it can get crowded there on the floor.  Think ahead while you are planning what to bring with you.

When you get to the event, you will need to register in order to play. 

To register, you’ll need a Registration form, a form of ID, your CARD GAME ID if you have one already, and the entry fee for the tournament.  You can get a Registration form at the event, or you can get one to print at home before the tournament by clicking on this link:

Make sure your Registration form is filled out completely before you reach the registration station.  
You will also need a CARD GAME ID number – this is the ID number used to track you in the tournament. If you don’t already have one, you will be able to get one at the tournament.

If you have a CARD GAME ID and have lost or forgotten it, you can ask the Registration station to look it up for you. If you’ve played in a previous event, they may be able to retrieve your number.

Once you have a completed Registration form and a CARD GAME ID, you can register for the tournament.

Please arrive early enough before the Yu-Gi-Oh! Day is scheduled to start to ensure you will be properly registered for the tournament. Registration generally closes 15 minutes before the scheduled start time. Duelists may register late for an event and will begin the event with a Round 1 Match Loss. Space is always limited based on the capacity of the venue, so please arrive and register early.

Duelists are responsible for paying attention to information from judges and/or tournament staff in order to understand what is going on. If Duelists have questions about the event either beforehand or while they are there, they should check with the OTS.

When you compete in a Yu-Gi-Oh! Day tournament, you’ll be held to high standards of play and sportsmanship. You should familiarize yourself on how the cards in your Deck work. Duelists must pay attention to information from judges and/or tournament staff in order to understand what is going on. Duelists are expected to know and understand the information provided in the above policies and guidelines while at a Yu-Gi-Oh! Day or any other Official or Sanctioned event.

Q: I want to judge at a Yu-Gi-Oh! Day, instead of competing as a Duelist – how can I volunteer?

In order to judge at a Yu-Gi-Oh! Day, judges must be registered in the KDE Judge Program. 
Judges must first pass the online Level 1 Rulings Comprehension test available at http://www.yugioh-card.com/en/judges/index.html. Following their successful completion of the test, they must then follow the instructions in their confirmation e-mail, and send in a completed application to join the KDE Judge Program.  All judges are required to hold Level 1 Rulings Comprehension certification and be enrolled in the KDE Judge Program in order to be eligible to judge at a Yu-Gi-Oh! Day.

If you’re interested in judging, you should contact the OTS for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Day as soon as possible (use the contact number provided in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Day Locator listing). Most OTS are always on the lookout for Judge Staff, so be prepared to provide your full name, contact information, including e-mail and phone number, and a description of your previous judging experience.

Q: Whom should I contact for more information about a specific Yu-Gi-Oh! Day?

Your best resource for answers about a specific Yu-Gi-Oh! Day event is the contact number listed on the Yu-Gi-Oh! Day Locator. KDE won’t be able to answer questions such as “How do I get to the venue?,” “Where should I park?,” “When does registration start?,” and so forth. For questions such as these, you will need to contact the OTS directly.

AT THE TOURNAMENT

Q: How long will the Yu-Gi-Oh! Day tournament last?

The number of Swiss rounds is determined by the number of Duelists enrolled in the tournament. Rounds in the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME are 40 minutes long. Since you can play all rounds in a Swiss tournament, you should expect to be at the event for several hours.

Q: What happens if I am not done with my Match after 40 minutes? (Swiss Rounds – Tier 1 Events)

During Swiss rounds, if Duelists have not completed their matches during their allotted time limit, proceed to End of Match procedures. Please follow these instructions when proceeding to End of Match procedures during the Swiss rounds portion of the tournament:

• Continue until the end of the current turn.
• If the Duel did not end at the end of the turn, go to “Extra Turns.”
• Extra Turns = Conduct (3) additional turns starting from the opponent’s turn.
• If a win condition (a Duelist is reduced to 0 Life Points or an instant win condition such as the effect of Exodia the Forbidden One or Final Countdown) occurs within these (3) turns, the Duel ends as normal.
• If a win condition does NOT occur within these (3) turns, the Duelist who has higher Life Points after the “Extra Turns” wins.
• If both Duelists’ Life Points are the same after the “Extra Turns” are completed, then play will continue on a turn-by-turn basis, with the Duelist with the most Life Points at the end of a turn being declared the winner of that Game.
• Life Points are checked after the turn has completed but before the opponent’s turn begins.
• If a Duelist’s Life Points reach 0 or if a win condition occurs during the turn, normal game play rules apply.
• Once the winner has been determined for the current Duel, the Match winner is determined.
• If a Duelist has more wins than his or her opponent, that Duelist wins the Match.
• If both Duelists have the same number of Duel wins, or if time is called in between Games of a Match, they will begin a new Duel with specific guidelines.
• Neither Duelist may use his or her Side Deck.
• Duelists must use a random method (die roll, coin flip, etc.) to determine who will go first.
• The Duel will continue for a total of (4) turns, two turns for each Duelist, unless a Duelist manages to win the Duel before the (4) turns are up.
• Once the four turns are completed, Life Point totals are compared and the Duelist with the highest Life Point total wins the Match.
• If both Duelists’ Life Points are the same after the (4) turns are completed, then play will continue on a turn-by-turn basis, with the Duelist with the most Life Points at the end of a turn being declared the winner of that Game. Please use the same criteria listed above (Step 5).

Match Draws cannot occur during Tier 1 events. There must always be a winner.

Q: Can I buy and sell cards from other participants at the event?

Each Yu-Gi-Oh! Day location may have different buying, selling, or trading policies. Duelists should contact the OTS and inquire about that store’s policies regarding buying, selling, and trading.
