YU-GI-OH! DUEL LINKS BOOBS, CLEAVAGE, AND WEAPONS CENSORED IN WEST

YU-GI-OH! DUEL LINKS BOOBS, CLEAVAGE, AND WEAPONS CENSORED IN WEST

More censorship news. This time around Konami’s Western release of Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links got hit… hard. The game removed lots of cleavage, shrunk the boob sizes, removed bullets from barrels, and even censored the exposed gut of an old man, proving that even man-flesh isn’t safe when it comes to censorship in the West.

Censored Gaming did an excellent six minute breakdown on the differences between the Japanese version and the Western English version of Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links, which came out for iOS, Android and on Steam for PC on November 16th, 2017 as a free-to-play game.

The video explains that in addition to shrinking the boobs on characters like Rai Mei and Thunder Nyan Nyan…

…They also covered up the midriff of certain cards, and removed cleavage outlines from Mai Valentine’s outfit.

Other characters were hit pretty hard, too. Mai’s Harpie Sisters were all censored in their 3D intro sequences, having their exposed cleavage covered up and their breast-size reduced. They even went the extra mile to cover up their shoulders and arms. Bare skin is apparently a sin.

Now keep in mind that Photoshopping some images to reduce the breast size or add some extra clothing to stifle anyone from being enticed cleavage, is taxing but not too hard. However, completely altering a mesh and redoing the texture for the mesh can get quite costly. It’s amazing that the localizers pulled a Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE for Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links.

For those of you who don’t remember, the localizers modified the models in Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE to censor them for the West, from completely changing certain outfits to literally removing the pelvic bones from the female characters.

The localizers definitely came out with a fat paycheck after the heavy amounts of censorship exercised in that project.

But for Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links, it wasn’t just the women who were hit with the censorship hammer. Yes, even the men were censored, too.

Apparently, bare-chested men are too much for Americans to handle.

And it wasn’t just bare chests… it was also religious-themed imagery that got axed as well, including crosses, pentagrams, and even one fellow who had his horns and reddish body-colour altered to look more like an old-man wearing bum-shorts.

Many gamers who were made aware of this have vowed to switch to playing the Japanese version of the game, or hoping modders repair the damage by re-including all of the censored cards and models that were altered for the Western release.
