Throughout his time on the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime, Yugi Muto was known for using plenty of magician monsters to win his duels. While the most famous of these cards are Dark Magician and Dark Magician Girl, they weren't the only ones, and he used plenty of other magician cards to take down his opponents.

While several of these cards are strong in the context of the anime (not really competitively), others simply shouldn't have been used at all, and make fans question what it was Yugi even thinking when he put them in his deck.

10. Magician Of Black Chaos

Magician of Black Chaos Yugioh

Magician of Black Chaos is just not a good card. As it is a ritual monster, at least two cards are going to be needed in order to get it out on the field, but it will very likely end up needing three or four. Once it's out on the field, it has 2800 attack points. That's all. There's really no utility here, it has absolutely nothing going for it, unlike its retrained counterpart with an effect that viewers were robbed of.

9. Sorcerer Of Dark Magic

Sorcerer Of Dark Magic Yugioh

Sorcerer of Dark Magic was used by Yugi in the Pyramid of Light movie, and it looks like a strong monster at first. It can block the use of trap cards and gains attack points from other magicians in the graveyard. It also has 3200 attack points, making it an all-around strong card. Its drawback, though, is that two level-six or higher spellcaster monsters must be tributed in order to bring this card onto the field. Besides being too specific, that means that at least four monsters are required to bring this card out, which is way too high of a cost for what it provides.

8. Magician's Valkyria

Magician's Valkyria Yugioh

Magician's Valkyria isn't a good card either, but at least she doesn't require an entire deck to get out onto the field. Magician's Valkyria has 1600 attack points and has an effect that blocks other magicians from being targeted while she is out on the field. as she isn't that strong of a card, she isn't going to last long enough for this to happen much, but at least her design is fantastic. She has that going for her.

7. Silent Magician

Silent Magician Yu-Gi-Oh!

Silent Magician is a card that starts out with 1000 attack points, and every turn gains 500 more until it maxes out at 3500. With no other effects, this is just a beatstick that takes a long time to become said beatstick. This card's semi-real world sort of not really equivalent at least gains a new effect once it reaches its max level, so why doesn't the anime version do the same? This card gets nothing.

6. Skilled Dark Magician

Skiled Dark Magician Yugioh

Skilled Dark Magician is a 1900-attack point four-star monster that comes with a pretty nifty effect. Once three spell cards have been activated, this card can be tributed in order to summon a Dark Magician from the hand or deck. This is a semi-easier way to get the card out under the right conditions.

This is the point in the list where the cards are certainly less bad, but this one is still pretty situational. You're only going to get use out of it when the circumstances are exactly what you need them to be.

5. Dark Magician Girl

Yugioh! Dark Magician Girl

Dark Magician Girl isn't a particularly good card, only gaining some attack points when Dark Magician and Magician of Black Chaos are in the graveyard, but she has a ton of support cards that directly reference her and power her up, which earned her this spot on the list. As a matter of fact, she is the center of her own sub-archetype that makes a few additional appearances on this list. The Dark Magician Girl card itself, unfortunately, isn't too good.

4. Dark Paladin

Dark Paladin Yugioh

Once fusion summoned, Dark Paladin starts with 2900 attack points and gains an additional 500 for each dragon on the field and in the graveyard. In addition, by discarding a card, the player can negate the activation of a spell card. That's an okay effect that can help in certain situations, but it is a bit alarming that this high on the list the cards really aren't that great, still.

3. Lemon Magician Girl

Lemon Magician Girl Yugioh!

Lemon Magician Girl is a card that is all about getting other magician girls out onto the field, as when she's attacked, she can summon a different one from the hand to take the hit while the attacker's points are cut in half. You can also tribute this monster to add a spellcaster to your hand.

Lemon Magician Girl is a solid monster, but she isn't the highest-ranked fruit-based magician on this list.

2. Apple Magician Girl

Apple Magician Girl Yugioh

Apple Magician Girl is a similar monster to Lemon Magician Girl, but her effects are a bit different. When Apple Magician Girl is attacked, you can, just like Lemon Magician Girl, summon a different spellcaster to take the hit that is cut in half in terms of power. However, if Apple Magician Girl is destroyed, you can add three magician girls from your graveyard to your hand, which is a great effect that will allow the cards to keep swarming the field.

1. Dark Magician

Dark Magician Yu-Gi-Oh!

Dark Magician is, of course, No. 1 on this list. That placement doesn't come down to the card itself, but instead the numerous support cards that specifically mention "Dark Magician." Without those cards, it would be much lower down on the list. Still, this card started an entire archetype, so praise is certainly due here.
